2017.05.22 Update: The official webpage has changed its language: “Automatically receive up to $300 in statement credits as reimbursement for travel purchases charged to your card each account anniversary year.*” The change is officially confirmed.
We know that, the definition of “annual” of the CSR $300 annual travel credit is 12 months from every December statement (basically calendar year). By this definition, we can get the $300 travel credit TWICE during the first year. But very likely, after May 21, 2017, the definition of “annual” will be changed to card member year, i.e. 12 statements starting from the open date. If so, we will no longer get the travel credit twice during the first year!
So far the evidence is: on the bottom of this webpage, https://www.chase.com/card-benefits/sapphirereserve/rewards, Chase changed the definition of “annual” to card member year without notice:
At the same time, Chase also mentioned that the definition of “annual” is still the old definition if you apply before May 21, 2017.
We can make sure that, this term is changed quite recently, because on the web cached captured by Google on May 13, 2017, the definition is still the old one:
But strangely, on the official webpage for CSR, the definition of “annual” is still not changed:
The definition on this page is also the old one: https://creditcards.chase.com/a1/sapphire/reserve/offer-details
I guess Chase is changing its term these days, and is changing its webpages one by one. Perhaps after several hours or days, we will see the official webpage for CSR change its term as well. If this guess is true, then we need to hurry up to apply for the CSR: we will earn $300 less if we apply later than May 21, 2017!
